Student Performance Opportunities
AIM (Achievement in Music)
Piano students are given the option to participate in the ISMTA (Illinois State Music Teachers Association) AIM program. This program is a 12-level program where students study and are tested by a qualified piano teacher on music theory, sight-reading, aural skills, technique, and memorize 2-3 solos. Each student progresses at their own speed in the program.
The annual recital is the first Sunday in March. Performance is a very important part of learning the instrument, so Gwyn encourages all her students to participate.
ILMEA (Illinois Music Education Association)
IMEA is a fine arts organization in the state of Illinois. They host a music festival in November for middle and high school band and orchestra. Participants must audition with prepared scales and music. School band directors can provide the music to practice.
Elgin Youth Symphony and Chicago Youth Symphony are wonderful opportunities for bassoon players. The audition requirements for EYSO are two contrasting pieces, scales and sight reading. Audition information is available on their website.
